Pedigree Cuts are proud to release the third album in a trilogy of retro french pop from the magnificent Vanessa Contenay-Quinones. As with ‘Allez Pop’ and ‘Made In France’, ‘Voodoo Girl’ is produced in the main by in-house maestros Skeewiff (Brand New Heavies, Baby Bam) with assistance from current BBC 6 music regular Mark Peters on closer ‘L’Abysse’.
A cornucopia of styles are executed with style and panache here, with nods to 70’s glam, 60’s ye ye and latin flavoured movie scores. Recorded in London and Vanessa’s home in Tenerife, subtly exotic flavours work their way into the fabric of the album, imbuing its grooves with a reflective sunshine vibe that is utterly irresistible.
In the past Vanessa has worked with a myriad of industry greats such as Lou Reed, Scott Walker and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins). Tracks from the previous albums in this trilogy have been used in ad campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, Vogue and Ugg in addition to high profile usage on shows such as the Netflix series ‘Spy’ with Sacha Baron Cohen. Vanessa also provided vocals for Dario G’s “Voices’ for the the hit Leonardo DiCaprio film ‘The Beach’ and via Buzzfeed shows such as ‘The History Of The Bikini’, her track ‘Bon Bon Bon’ has accumulated well in excess of 300 million plays.
‘Voodoo Girl’ is surely set to enhance Vanessa’s global reputation as one of the most listened to french language singers.
